The winter months can take a toll on our skin, leaving it dry, red, itchy and irritated.
Here are some helpful tips for healthy winter skin:
Maximize moisture with a humidifier.
Keeping a humidifier in your most used room will add moisture to the air keeping your skin hydrated, this added moisture will help your skin feel youthful and healthier.
Protect your Lips.
Apply a generous coat of lip balm with a sunscreen built in. Look for ingredients with Shea, Aloe and Cocoa Butter to soothe. Avoid balms with alcohol, this tends to cause dehydration.
Still Apply Sunscreen.
The snow can reflect up to 80% of the sun’s rays, so regular sunscreen is crucial all year around…even on dark and dreary days, as UV rays can still penetrate the clouds causing damage. Make sure to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen daily.
Shorten Showers.
Long, hot showers can dry out your skin. Take lukewarm showers, they are just as effective on germs as hot water and less irritating to skin.
Switch up Your Skincare Products.
Swap out your regular face wash for a gentler, cream based cleanser and limit products that contain alcohol and fragrances, they can cause further irritation and dryness. Use products that help retain natural oils. A richer night cream is helpful to combat the cold winter months.
